Southern Highlands Province [Papua New Guinea]

Southern Highlands is a highlands province of Papua New Guinea. The provincial capital is mendi. The province covers an area of 15, 100 spuare kilometers, and has a population of 360,318 (2000 census). The province shares a common administrative boundary with Western Highlands, Wabag, Gulf and Hella Province. The province is the home of the Famous Hella Wigman that is displayed at shows and festivals within the province and in the country. It is reachable by air and road transport.
 Southern Highlands is one of the Province in Papua New Guinea with it's resources riched and beautiful land scape. The Province also has the second highest mountain in the Country. The Province is divided into five (5) districts and each districts have their representatives in the Papua New Guinea National Parliament with a Governor for the Province.

This is the Provincial Flag of Southern Highlands Province. A black stripe   separates red (upper right) and green (lower left) triangles. Seven white stars (for the 7 districts) cover the red and green. A cassowary head (representing traditional exchange) and two spears (for defence) are set in yellow over the black. Previously there have been seven (7) Districts in the province but now two (2) of the district has joined the new province called Hella Province, one of the new province in Papua New Guinea. So now its only five (5) districts in the province.-


         SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS PROVINCE HAS FIVE(5) DISTRICTS
  1. Mendi Munioh District - Mendi is the capital town of the District and the whole Province. The District   population was 96,137 at  the 2000 census.
  2. Imbongu District -  Imbonggu District is a District of the Southern Highlands Province. Its capital is  Imbonggu. The population was 59,813 at the 2000 census 
  3. Pangia-Ialibu District - Ialibu-Pangia District is district of the Southern Highlands Province. Its capital is Ialibu. The population was 50,243 at the 2000 census. 
  4.  Kagua-Erave District - Kagua-Erave District is a District of the Southern Highlands Province. Its capital is Kagua. The population was 54,640 at the 2000 census. 
  5.  Nipa-Kutubu District -  Nipa-Kutubu District is a district of the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. Its capital is Nipa. The population was 98,261 at the 2000 census.
This five Districts come together to form Southern highlands Province.
